Memorial Day is almost here. The official start of summer. While many people in the are often take off to the beaches of North and South Carolina, don’t be too bummed if you’re staying in town; there’s a ton to do this Memorial Day, 2017.
Perhaps the areas flagship event is the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This big race has been is Charlotte for sometime now, and a staple of Memorial Day Weekend. Not only is there the big race there’s all sorts of other events & activities based around the race, so be sure to check out everything that’s going on.
If NASCAR isn’t your thing, think about taking a visit to one of my favorite places in the area, the U.S. National Whitewater Center. There’s always a ton to do at the center, but they really take it up a notch for this holiday weekend with live music & fireworks. Check out the full event calendar and join them sometime over the weekend for their 6th annual celebration.
Like roller coasters? Then head on over to Carowinds for a weekend of fun. If you’re an active or retired military member with a valid ID you can also get in for free on Sunday or Monday, so make a day of it and have fun!
No matter what you’re into there is something to find and best of all a lot of these events are free. One website I always check out (even if it’s not Memorial Day) is Charlotte on the Cheap. They always have a great calendar of events in and around Charlotte, and like the name says, most of it is free or cheap.
We hope you all enjoy the long weekend, and Thank You! to all the brave men and women that have served this country.
